Roxbury

Flannery doesn't have class on Tuesdays, so we headed out to Roxbury for the day. Roxbury is a central neighborhood of Boston and an "African American hub" according to my new favorite book.

We rode a really long bus, window shopped, bought an antenna for the free TV Flannery acquired yesterday in order watch Tiger games, checked out a Curious George book from the local branch library (surprise, surprise), scoped out some good shampoo stores, and ended our day at my new favorite grocery store, Tropical Foods. Flannery was excited because Tropical Foods came up a few times in research she did for a paper last week on 'Lack of Supermarkets in Low Income Neighborhoods'. I was excited because they sell fresh coconuts for $.59, stock 20 pound bags of dried beans, have an entire wall full of fresh tubers/roots (yams, taro, and about 15 things I had never heard of), and carry Inca Cola. I became addicted to Inca Cola during my 27 hour layover in Peru while making my way to Bolivia to visit Katie and Jeff (who had a baby today!!!!)
