Happy Birthday, Dr. King!

I love having 7-year-olds! They are so passionate. They go into things full speed and full heart. They own things. They can really get into the meat of things. And, they spend so much of the day singing.

For so many years* now we have been reading to them and talking to them and celebrating things and dragging them all over the place. And, people - they were paying attention and they were absorbing. At seven years of age, they are owning things. They are taking charge. They are leading the traditions.

We saw it last summer at our annual Up-North vacation. We saw it at the start of school. We saw it at Christmas. We really saw it during Kwannza. And, it shone through today. They were so excited for MLK day. They have been reading and talking about MLK all week. They have been asking questions and critically thinking about what they are learning in school about MLK. They went to an all-day youth program today and loved it. When I came to pick them up, Collin told me I had to wait because he was still writing some stuff down. He was writing down the year that MLK got married and what kind of prize he won. But, the best part of today for me was all the spontaneous singing. I should have gotten some video, but I didn't. Instead I give you videos of the songs that kept popping up all day. Go 7-year-olds!!!!!







*OK, 5 years is not that many, but almost a lifetime to 2 little pipsqueaks.
