Keys

I should go reinforce a felt tail or work on my paper that is due Monday, but after glancing at my last post, I can't resist writing about Collin's keys. Collin and Cayla have never been really attached to a particular toy. They definitely have stuffed animals they prefer and toys that they play with often, but never for long periods of time. And they pretty much can be convinced to share anything they are playing with . . . until now. If you look carefully at the photos in the last entry, you'll notice that in all of them (except for the last one) Collin has a set of keys. Collin is attached at the hip, or fingertip to be exact, to this set of keys. He carries them everywhere. This would be fine, except it is really hard to ride a tricycle while carrying keys, a bit dangerous to climb up a ladder carrying keys, really hard to put on your shoes while holding keys, and a bit gross to go to the bathroom while holding keys. Kind, sweet, gentle, mildmannered Collin has (repeatedly) turned into a tantruming, screaming, frustrated mess over these keys. He has a fit if we take them away (so that he can wash his hands, go to bed . . . ). He also has a fit when he can't do something while holding his keys that he used to do with ease (put on his shirt, open a drawer, . . .). It was cute for the first few days and now I ready to make the keys disappear.

In reading Leigh's "Dumps Like a Truck" entry, I came across your comment that Collin was currently walking around in a dress.

I am keeping a close eye on this situation, and tomorrow will be consulting with a child custody attorney. Beware!
