Ahhh, Valentine's Day . . . . .
So, unlike our holy, wholesome Halloween (amidst a sea of candy, Collin and and Cayla went for the Goldfish crackers and juice boxes), Valentine's Day was a candyfest - or at least for 15 minutes until the candy ran out. Fun dip was tracked into 3 different rooms, and we only have 5!
Although they came home in high spirits from their 'friendship party' at school, Cayla had a fit because she didn't get a valentine . . . from herself. She told me a very detailed story of how she put valentines in everyone's mailbox; Z and C and A and then she didn't have one for herself!!!! Today, they came home from school with lots of extra stuff in their lunchbox - leftovers from yesterday's friendship party and some random valentines AND Cayla had scored one of her own valentines. She was happy as a clam. However, when Collin realized what was going on, he threw a huge, uncharacteristic tantrum because HE DIDN'T GET A VALENTINE FROM HIMSELF. Oh, the tragedy of it all.

The whole process really makes no sense for a kid when you think about it--let's go to the store and look at the boxes of Valentines--which do you like? oh those? let's get them and then GIVE THEM ALL AWAY to other people!!!! Kids don't pick Valentines becuase they think their friends will like them--they pick the ones they like becuase they would want one!!! And it doesn't really even have to be a purchased one--Macie cut out hearts this year and taped heart pencils to them--she even made one for Avery--and then realized on the morning of Valentines day that SHE wouldn't be getting a pencil :-) (even though we had like 10 extra left in the bag). So then I make her and Avery some Valentines at work, tape one of the pencils to them, Macie is happy but Avery looks at hers and then the one that Macie has given her and says with some disdain "Hey!!! I got two of the same pencil!!!!"

J is too young to recognize he didn't get one of his own, or at least he didn't seem disappointed. And also, he doesn't really eat candy, so L and I have been munching on his Valentine's haul all week. Gummy hearts. Yum.

Ok, let it be known that ONE of us was munching on J's candy. The OTHER ONE had been wondering for a few days where it went.
Thank goodness for your blog. Now I'm off to see where P hid the stash.
