We're back

A few of you have been giving me some gentle (and some not so subtle) reminders that we haven’t blogged in forever! I have no excuse, other than the fact that we experienced a holiday celebration that went on for 11 days (which doesn’t include Sat, Dec 23 – didn’t do much that day). Considering the fact that we almost didn’t get pizza on Halloween because neither of us wanted to call for it, 10 days of parties, after 3 months of being hermits was a bit overwhelming to say the least.

Hear is what we’ve learned this past month:
1.The best present is still a cardboard box.
2.Grandparents are the best! Aunts and Uncles are pretty cool too.
3.Don’t drop breakable things on Donna and Bill’s fancy tile kitchen floor. They don’t just break. They shatter into a million tiny shards which fly very far in every direction.
4.When given a choice of vegetables or cookies and chocolate, most people will choose the latter. This gets a bit excessive after day 4. I think Cayla ate 5 cups of chocolate covered popcorn in a week.
5.At age 2 kids can’t do much for themselves. At age 3 they learn to dress themselves, put on lotion, etc. At age 4 they start to lose this ability. At age 4 while surrounded by loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends they lose this ability completely.
6.Mixing water with whole milk doesn’t turn it into skim milk.
7.Blogging becomes a bit uninteresting when working with a dial-up connection on a computer that houses 45 versions of solitaire (my current favorite is 2-deck Colorado). In fact, I would probably never blog again if we had Solitaire on our computer at home.
8.3 bowls of Borscht (Ukrainian beet soup) will clear out Cayla’s bowels in a way she’s never experienced before.
9.After 3 times out on the ice, Collin is a far better skater than I can ever hope to be.
10.Produce is really, really cheap at Eastern Market. As a result, we will probably be eating yellow peppers continually for the next week ($4 for a huge box – wow!).
11.We will never send out holiday cards to everyone we meant to. (If you were lucky enough to get one this year, some part of your name must be very near the beginning or end of the alphabet, or we found pre-written, unsent ones from 2001).
12.Putting the kids to bed late 1 day is OK. Two days in a row, sort of ruins the next day. Three days in a row really sucks for everyone involved. And 4 days in a row will never happen again.

I must leave you now, for I haven’t gone this long on the computer without playing solitaire in a quite some time.
