Let's pretend it's June again. June 21st to be exact, which I think is the first day of summer. And, the day that comes after the last day I actually posted. Let's do a little ketchup. Let's not think about the fact that it's been almost 3 months since I last wrote. So, how was your summer? Ours was OK. Nothing awful or sad occurred, but it felt like someone was always a bit grumpy. Perhaps that's why I never posted. Or, perhaps we can blame it on facebook - the site I love to hate, but sill visit every day and get my little interactive social media fix. Or, perhaps it's because we were gone for half the summer. Complaining about vacationing seems like the most obnoxious practice ever invented, but I'm a homebody. I like to be grounded. I like to be around to stake my tomato plants and weed around my rosebushes (and other things that don't involve gardening that I can't seem to remember). Or, perhaps it's because the kids are getting older and losing their rose-colored glasses. In some ways it was quite an emotional summer. Our kids have a lot of baggage to unpack and I think the process has begun. However, that's not to say that our days weren't filled with all the things that summer should be filled with.
There was blueberry picking Up-North. The tiniest, teeniest ones you can image, but blue and tasty nonetheless.

There was the annual Art Fair. Cayla insisted on getting her face painted and waited very patiently in a very slow line while her brother sat mesmerized in the dance recital tent. However, after seeing Cayla's puppy dog face, Collin decided to also partake in the face painting. I challenge anyone to try to stay awake in the car after wandering around Art Fair.

Collin and Cayla was quite intrigued by the gum art. I live about a mile from this alley and don't think I've ever seen it before. It appears that Collin is touching the gum in this photo. Apparently I missed this because I was busy taking a photo. Gross. However, most of the gum was covered in paint, so maybe not-so-gross. However, it was all probably covered with urine. So, yes, gross.

A little watermelon love from Miss Cayla. Seven-year-olds eat a lot. They grow a lot too. Cayla grew like a weed this summer. She is so much bigger than Collin right now that people who meet them don't think they are twins. I'm sure he'll catch up at some point:)

There was a lot of play on the swing set this summer. Creative play that is. They kept weaving ropes all around it and hanging things from anywhere they could find. I think they were trying to pull each other up in the basket on this day. I probably should have stopped them, but the science teacher in me was overjoyed; simple machines, my friend. I did however stop them when they started tying the rope around their waist and jumping from the top.

Glad you're back!
Have been waiting for this blog to get back on track for...like...3 months?
So we live 20 minutes apart (15 on a good day) and have seen each other once in awhile this crazy summer but I too enjoyed the update :-)
