Book Fair and One Less Tooth

The twins had a Scholastic Book Fair at School today. For those of you who aren't familiar, Scholastic, a popular publisher of kids' books comes and fills elementary school gyms with piles of books for a few days. All the classes have an opportunity to visit throughout the day and students can buy books for themselves or their classes. The fairs are often open all evening, so families have a chance to buy as well. I politely declined my kids' teachers suggestions of sending in hard cash or a blank check and told Collin and Cayla we'd visit after school. When I picked Cayla up today, her teacher warned me that Cayla had picked out something to buy during their class walk through. And, in fact, she had had a minor meltdown when she couldn't take it with her and had to leave and go for a "mid-Book Fair cooldown walk". Now, I like Scholastic. They sell good, cheap books and give lots of free ones to schools. As a teacher, a fair amount of my personal money went to Scholastic to outfit my students with books. OK, patient readers, Cayla's choice was a $25 Hannah Montana book complete with microphone. Nope, not going to happen. In an interesting twist of fate, although my kids have never mentioned a thing to me, I thought a microphone might be a fun gift and spent some time surfing Amazon for one, yesterday. Cayla wasn't too attached to the book after I dropped the hint that a microphone may be in her her future and quickly chose a $3.99 book about silly, scared chickens.



Toothless!

Collin lost another tooth today. He now has a cute, gapping hole on the bottom of his mouth. Cayla never really had a hole. Her new teeth were almost grown in by the time her old ones came out. Collin was excited to have have lost his tooth and has zero.interest.in.the.tooth.fairy.

"You could put it under your pillow, " we said

"No thanks," he replied.

"You don't want a dollar?" we asked.

"No," he said and walked away.
